April was the month we celebrated my son Nic’s birthday. We managed to get a good deal out of Groupon, which was to pay $65 for $140 worth of food at Seki Restaurant in Rendezvous Grand Hotel.
We were the first customers to arrive at the restaurant being typical Singaporeans well-known as kiasu (local term for being afraid to lose 😛 LOL). Anyway, we didn’t know what to expect from the restaurant, if the food is fresh or nice or if the food is going to be so expensive that we would end up with just a bowl of white rice or plain udon each. Well, the white rice is expensive that’s for sure, at $3 per bowl, but all other dishes are quite reasonable considering that the restaurant is situated in the prime commercial and cultural district area and in a 4.5 star hotel.
Anyways, I will not bore you with too much details except that the food we had was great. Our favourites were the raw salmon slices which were fresh (though it was still slightly frozen – we could taste the ice) and thick, the ebi tempura (prawn tempura), tori teriyaki, salmon mentaiyaki and salmon shioyaki.
Not so great were the udons which were quite ordinary, especially the cold udon, according to our gourmet food lover, Mel. I guess you kind of expect better quality from a hotel restaurant.
It was the first time that we, Mel and myself, got a taste of what foie gras tastes like. Though it’s not that bad but I don’t think either of us would like to try it again. The taste is overpowering even with just a tiny bite of the foie gras. Besides, the cruelty involved in producing this fatty goose liver gives us reason not to try it again. We ordered the dish mainly out of curiosity *rolleyes* and after a little hesitation.
We had a great meal and a great family time together and if the next offer came along, I’ll be sure to snap it up again 😉 Yep, I’m cheap LOL Oh, btw, the whole meal cost $180, so with the Groupon voucher, I paid only $105. Value for money 🙂
J, your foodie friend, signing out 😉
Oh my… everything looks great! I’m getting hungry. For the looks of it you ate a lot lol. 😉
We did! We had to make full use of the $140 voucher LOL
Good, good! LOL. For some “unknown” reason I feel like eating japanese food… I wonder why that is… 😛
Geez, I don’t know either 😛
I wonder if it’s your fault LOL
Um…well…if you say so 😛
Food is an interesting subject to blog about. Speaking of which, I still haven’t tried my macarrons recipe, but when I do I’ll take pics (if they don’t look too bad) 😉
Ok. I’m not sure if my sister is still going to the macaron-making class. She might have bought the wrong lesson LOL Will let you know 😉
Thanks 🙂 I’ve seen so many recipies that I’m still trying to figure it out which one is the easiest lol.
When you find one pass it to me 😉 Better still, send me the macarons! LOL
LOL I would but there’s a chance they’ll be ruined when they get there. 😀
