Music

It’s been quite some time since I last blog about music, so today, with a little bit of inspiration and help from a friend far, far away (in Portugal), I found a song to blog about.  It is simply called ‘Music’.  Now, what is so special about this song?

Well, firstly, Music is the name of David Garrett’s latest album, it’s title track.  I probably wouldn’t have heard of it if it wasn’t for Miss M of the Music Note Blog  who wrote a review of the songs on the new album.  With each review comes a video of the song and that was how I got to hear Music as played by David Garrett (DG).  The moment I heard it I was like ‘Isn’t this song Il Divo’s Musica?’  And that’s the other reason why Music is so special that I have to blog about it 🙂

After hearing DG’s Music, it got me searching for the original song that Il Divo’s (ID) Musica was adapted from.  I always thought that the original was an old Italian classic but boy, was I surprised!  Thanks to Miss M who provided the name John Miles, I looked him up and found his Music was a Top 3 hit singles in 1976 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Miles_(musician) and that it was exactly the song that ID covered in Italian.

After watching the performance by the original singer, I have to say I much prefer ID’s version and that’s not because I’m biased.  Watch the videos and decide for yourself 😉  But I do think it’s a beautiful song and am glad that ID covered it, and oh so well, too 😉

Here are the videos.  Enjoy!

Loved that Maestro Mark Agnor had a bit of solo in there 🙂

And here are the lyrics to the song (and translation):

Música(Italian Version by Il Divo)

Musica è il mio amore
Il primo e l’ultimo
Musica è il futuro
Ed il passato in me.

Restare senza note
Impossibile perchè
In queste stanze vuote
La musica mia c’è

Musica è l’amore
Primo e anche l’unico
Regalo mio più grande
La musica per te

Musica è il mio amore
Il primo e l’ultimo
Musica è il futuro
Ed il passato in me
Ed il passato in me
Il passato in me

E nel mio spirito
Un canto libero
La musica è la vita
Che c’è in me
E non ha limite

Musica è il mio amore
Il primo e l’ultimo
Musica è il futuro
Ed il passato in me

Restare senza note
Impossibile perchè
In queste stanze vuote
La musica mia c’è

Music(translation of Italian version)

Music is my love —
the first and the last.
Music is my future
and my past.

To remain without notes
is impossible
for in these empty rooms
the music is mine.

Music is my love —
the first and the only.
Music is my greatest
gift to you.

Music is my love —
the first and the last.
Music is my future
and my past…
and my past…
my past…

And in my spirit
is a free song.
Music is the life
that lives in me
and is unlimited.

To remain without notes
is impossible
for in these empty rooms
the music is mine.

Music(by John Miles)

Music was my first love

And it will be my last
Music of the future
And music of the past

To live without my music
Would be impossible to do
In this world of troubles
My music pulls me through

BRIDGE

Music was my first love
And it will be my last
Music of the future
And music of the past
And music of the past
And music of the past

BRIDGE

Music was my first love
And it will be my last
Music of the future
And music of the past

To live without my music
Would be impossible to do
‘Cause in this world of troubles
My music pulls me through

  1. I love David Garrett, as you probably know, and I hope I might one day see him live.

This song is one of my all-time favourites and I would like the words as my epitaph. Another version I also like is that of Michael Bal

He had his own Prom a few years ago and the live version of this with Izzy Johnson playing violin was fantastic.

    Thanks Judy xx
